Nostalgic magic of Christmas in Gendarmenmarkt Square (Nostalgischer WeihnachtsZauber auf dem Gendarmenmarkt)

The Christmas Market in Gendarmenmarkt Square has developed during a few years into a glorious spectacle, the attraction of which is expanded even outside the capital. Over 600 000 visitors from all over the world come annually into the great marquee city and will be fascinated by its magic. The popularity of the market is based on over 150 high-quality exhibitors.

There are introduced international crafts artists. For example, the Japanese origami masters amaze with their paper folding skills. The leather queen, female hat-maker, an ivory cutter working with the fossil of a mammoth, tree cutter from Oberammergau, a turner and many others fascinate with their creations. In the pleasant atmosphere of heated marquees you can find unique present ideas.

You can taste traditional delicacies, such as hot macarons, baked almonds, gingerbreads, bratwurst and mulled wine. In addition, many gastronomy marquees offer several international specialties.

Also the glistening lighting creates ambiance. The marquees are decorated with 1000 meters of Christmas lights, over 1000 baubles and 120 bright stars. The midpoint of the festival lighting is the Christmas tree endowed by the city of Oranienburg. There are 5000 lights in it, which form a virtual snowsquall, when the big mirror ball in the middle of the columns of the Concert Hall reflects the light above the market area. The market has been praised in German as well in international newspapers, because it is the only market in Germany in which art, culture and shopping are combined in a great way. For example, Berliner Morgenpost has defined it as “the most beautiful market of Berlin in the most beautiful place of Berlin”. Welt am Sonntag says that the market is the best advertisement for Berlin.
